Willie Bittner wore a blue plaid three-piece suit from a Minneapolis vintage shop.

Together the couple had a green wedding.

Johnson and Bittner were married at the Living Green Expo on the Minnesota State Fairgrounds May 7 in front of 130 guests, about 100 curious onlookers and a KSTP-TV television crew. The couple won the $ 27,000 environmentally-friendly wedding through a “Twin Cities Live” morning show contest earlier this year.

The wedding prize included everything from environmentally friendly make-up, to estate sale wedding rings, locally grown flowers, organic cupcakes, and a hybrid vehicle for a honeymoon trip.

Leica Wedding Rings Made of Precious Metal Still Cheaper Than the Real Thing
News from Gizmodo:

Michael Zhao —The wedding band is a time-honored tradition since marketers first convinced us we needed them in the late 1940′s. Nowadays, they’re ubiquitous and for the most part, undifferentiated.

Not these wedding rings created for Japanese photographer couple, whose jewelry-maker friend created these custom bands based on the Leica 50mm Summilux lens’ focusing and aperture rings––his and hers, respectively. And it’s held together by a mini matching Leica M3 ring-holder.

I wish them the best but if things ever go awry, I wouldn’t mind finding the set at a pawn shop. [

Americans spend billions on engagement rings
News from KTAR.com:

by KTAR.com (May 31st, 2011 @ 10:11am)

No one ever said engagement rings are cheap.

According to Bloomberg, Americans spent $ 6.12 billion on engagement rings in 2010, averaging out to $ 3,465 a ring.

While outlays on wedding bands gained 6.5 percent from 2006, spending on engagement rings dropped 31 percent, the data show. In the wake of the 2008 recession, couples became “much more aware of what they can afford,” said Shane McMurray, who runs the Tuscon, Arizona-based Wedding Report.

Do men and wedding shows marry well?
News from Southland Times:

Are wedding shows still the traditional domain of females? We sent Times reporter SCOT MACKAY to find out what’s on offer in the world of wedding planning.

When you think “man”, you think sports, barbecues, cars and hunting, but can you include attending wedding shows?

It turns out yes, because it appears men are putting aside more pleasurable activities to become increasingly involved in organising weddings.

At the 48 stalls set up at the Invercargill Elegant Wedding Show at the weekend, exhibitors were run off their feet serving the needs of women and – yes – men.

Show organiser Sandy Jefferies says about 370 people attended the show, in its second year at the Ascot Park Hotel – and many of those were men.

According to exhibitors, they are a part of a growing group of men who are stepping up and taking on more responsibility than the just the choice of suit and car.

Many exhibitors …………… continues on Southland Times

News from Gather Celebs News Channel:

Tony Romo and Candice Crawford married Saturday in a wedding that rocked Dallas. The Cowboys quarterback and the former Miss Missouri tied the knot in style. No cameras were allowed, but you know how well that works these days, so first photos of the wedding dress have already emerged from Pop Sugar.

Candice Crawford wore a trumpet-style gown, hugging the body with a plunging neckline, sleeveless bodice, and a skirt flared above the knee. The skirt appears to be a smooth satin, while the bodice is overlaid with lace appliqué. Candice is gorgeous and well-toned, so the fit flattered to an amazing degree. Her blonde hair complemented the fabric, with…………… continues on Gather Celebs News Channel

Having a wedding in a distant locale requires some give and take
News from NorthJersey.com:

It can be viewed as a great excuse for a vacation or an unwanted obligation and expense. When a couple decide to take their wedding on the road, they need to understand everything that it entails for them and their guests.

“It is an expensive honor to be invited to a destination wedding,” says WeddingChannel.com associate editor Amy Eisenger.

Couples should consider their guests when choosing the specific location. If kids are invited, are there children’s activities or babysitting available at the resort? If there are older family members, will travel to the ceremony site (be it a beach, mountainside or rocky coastline) be too difficult? Will guests have to rent a car to do anything or are there enough activities in the immediate area?

A little consideration and thinking ahead can take away many of the negative possibilities and leave a long list of “pros” for the destination wedding couple.

A picturesque location is…………… continues on NorthJersey.com

Benevolent brides
News from Beckley Register-Herald:

BECKLEY — Oh, vanity of vanities. The collateral damage of marriage ceremonies might be minimized if bridal haute couture — dresses traditionally plumping the cost of even modest weddings by $ 1,500 and upward of $ 10,000 — could be made to benefit humankind.

There is new motivation in Beckley to save hours of searching and thousands of dollars on the queen mother of all formal wear. Best of all, notoriously all-about-me brides can prove their naysayers wrong by helping hundreds of displaced earthquake and tsunami victims when they buy their never-worn, big-city-boutique gowns from Trio Consignment — for a scant fraction of retail.

Dana Shammaa recognizes a $ 3,000 dress when she sees one. Over the last two months, she has witnessed them shipped to her store from specialty bridal shops around the country. It began when she agreed to participate in a charity called “Brides for Haiti.” Now Shammaa is selling the gowns here — all 200 of them and counting — sending the majority…………… continues on Beckley Register-Herald

All you need is love

All you need is love
News from Los Angeles Times:

There is so much love surrounding a wedding, it’s no wonder that many couples, recognizing just how blessed they are, look for ways to give back.

Generosity is contagious, and incorporating charity into your special day has never been easier.

In lieu of gifts

Wedding gifts are wonderful, but some couples already have everything they need to start their lives together — either because they’re marrying later in life or they lived together before tying the knot.

A lucky few are financially blessed and just want to spread the love. When Dana Reston and Robert Lyons of Beverly Hills married in May 2010, they tucked a small card into their wedding invitation that read: “Your presence is our present; but if you feel compelled, a donation to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles would be truly meaningful to us.”

“We felt really good about giving our wedding-gift money to a charity we c…………… continues on Los Angeles Times
