News from Daily Mail:

By Andrea Magrath

Last updated at 4:11 PM on 31st December 2011

Her first wedding was a ripped jeans and baseball cap affair in Vegas, and her LA wedding to Kevin Federline had to be moved up because of the media circus surrounding the nuptials.

The 30-year-old singer is alleged to be planning a traditional, Southern-style country wedding to fiancé Jason Trawick, 40.

Ottawa woman delivers wedding gowns to Africa
News from CBC:

Carol Waters plans to bring donated wedding gowns to brides in the Mathar slums of Nairobi, Kenya, in January. (CBC) An Ottawa woman is granting the wishes of young brides in Kenya by delivering donated wedding gowns to the African country.

Carol Waters, a volunteer with Project Hope Africa, teaches young women how to sew and earn money. She had the idea to bring donated wedding gowns to the Marthare slums of Nairobi when she was last there looking through a student’s wedding album.

Waters asked her students if brides ever wore white but was told that only the very wealthy typically can afford to.

“I had the idea that even though you’re poor and you live in a slum you could have a dress that for one day you could feel very special,” Waters said.

Britney Spears Planning Southern Wedding To Jason Trawick?
News from Ear Sucker:

Britney Spears is said to be planning a southern wedding to her fiancee, Jason Trawick! In case you didn’t know, Britney was born in Mississippi and raised in Louisiana, so we’re not surprised that she wants to go the traditional route.

She announced earlier in the month that she and Jason were engaged to be married, and now wedding planning details are leaking out.

A friend of the singer’s said, “She wants a traditional Southern-style wedding with comfort food, surrounded by her family, her two sons and all of her childhood friends, as opposed to a Hollywood wedding.”

Britney has already been married twice before, so perhaps she doesn’t feel the need to make a huge deal out of it? In 2004, she married her childhood friend Jason Alexander and in 2007, she got hitched to Kevin Federline, who was a backup dancer for her.

The friend added, “Britney is taking this marriage really seriously.”

Let’s hope tha…………… continues on Ear Sucker

Wedding dresses stolen in break-in
News from Tulsa World:

“The worst thing was to call the brides and say, ‘Your dress isn’t here. Come pick out a new one,’ ” Elauf said.

The store, at 8262 E. 71st St., was broken into about 4 a.m. Tuesday, and cash, jewelry, accessories, prom dresses, about 30 bridesmaid dresses and 40 wedding gowns were taken.

The dresses were stored in the back and had already been picked out by brides and altered for upcoming weddings.

The thieves came in through a back door, and when they couldn’t get the safe open and found little cash, they began taking jewelry from cases and dresses from the racks, Elauf said.

“I sat down, and I was in shock,” she said. “We cried a little bit, but we had to sit down and get to work.”

The brides whose dresses were stolen have been invited to pick out any dress in the shop, regardless of the cost, as a replacement, and Elauf has been working with vendo…………… continues on Tulsa World

I’m A Celebrity Wedding Planner, Get Me Out Of Here
News from Huffington Post:

Sometimes the thing you’re known for is not at all how you imagine yourself.

In my case, being described as a “celebrity” wedding planner always leaves me bemused. I’m certainly not a celebrity, and though some of my clients have achieved fame, most go out of their way to remove themselves from the limelight. I would gladly name drop, but I find it to be a big bore, especially in Los Angeles, where so many deem themselves a “celebrity” of sorts, even wedding planners. If you really want to know who my famous clients are, I am more than sure you can easily find that out through Google and a myriad of search engines and blogs.

For my part, I prefer to view myself as a seasoned professional, providing impeccable service to the world’s most discerning clientele. I pride myself in the team caliber I have built, the creativity of our design and our ability to execute couture celebrations. Man’s wedding ring found in recycling bin
News from Springfield News Sun:

By Andrew McGinn, Staff Writer 5:36 PM Wednesday, December 28, 2011

SPRINGFIELD — Phil Bobay has commingled with his wife, Jan, for nearly half a century — but what he accidentally dropped this week into a recycling bin is neither plastic nor glass.

Bobay’s white-gold wedding ring, the one Jan slipped onto his finger 48 years ago, slipped into the cardboard bin Tuesday at the Clark County Waste Management District’s recycling station on West Main Street.

“I lost 27 pounds, and my wedding ring is kind of slipping on my finger,” Bobay, 71, explained.

When the Springfield resident realized what happened, a sense of fear admittedly gripped him.

“If you know our cardboard bin, there’s only a five-inch slot,” said Steve Schlather, program coordinator for the waste management district……………. continues on Springfield News Sun

Celebrity Wedding Planner Throws Brickbat at the Media

Oren feels that today’s constant coverage of celebrities chips away at the self-worth of the audience-at-large. She also recalls that while working the Kevin Costner wedding in Aspen, Colorado, she was astounded when she finally caught sight of a hillside filled with photographers wielding telephoto lenses:

Wedding Gowns Stolen in South Tulsa
News from KTUL:

Dozens of brides may be without wedding dresses after a bridal store is burglarized in south Tulsa. It happened around 5:00 Tuesday morning at the Bridal Palace which is located at 71st street and Memorial Drive.

In total about 40 dresses were stolen hurting about 20 different weddings.

It’s your big day, your time to sparkle in diamonds, a veil and the perfect dress. For some Tulsa brides that dream was almost crushed.

“What hurt me a lot is that they are taking not my money, other people’s money,” says Bridal Palace owner Houda Elauf.

Early Tuesday morning, burglars came in the back door of Bridal Palace and ended up taking dozens of dresses.

Elauf says the worst part about it is they didn’t steal the dresses that she owns, they stole the dresses that her brides own. Stealing from racks in the lay-away section.

“The dresses for the girls like when you buy something you put it in layaway or there’s alterations,” says Elauf……………. continues on KTUL

Global economic crisis hits China’s exporters
News from Terra Daily:

Wedding dress maker Wang Lujia earns a living making brides happy, but the global economic crisis is casting a chill over her small business in southern China.

At her workshop in the manufacturing hub of Shenzhen, workers stitch and bead by hand wedding gowns designed for brides in the United States and Europe, which are now reeling from financial turmoil.

“The external crisis had a big impact this year. Business was not so good,” Wang, founder of Divine Bridal Co, told AFP in her showroom filled with 600 wedding and party dresses.

Over the past three decades, Shenzhen has grown from a sleepy fishing village to the heartland of China’s export juggernaut. But as demand from China’s key markets slows, companies here are suffering.

As orders have tailed off, the cost of raw materials and labour have surged, with workers striking to demand higher pay.
