Couples juggle school and wedding plans
News from The Breeze:

Wake up. Go to a 10 a.m. exam. Eat lunch. Get married.

That’s what junior Rebecca Montalvo did on Dec. 16 — the last day of finals.

“I was only engaged for about a week,” said Montalvo, an information analysis major. “I was really nervous because I had never experienced anything like that.”

Rebecca’s husband, JMU 2011 graduate Ny Montalvo, is in the Coast Guard. Because of this, the two decided to have a small marriage ceremony so they could see each other wherever he gets stationed.

“If we weren’t married, he could get stationed in Alaska, and I wouldn’t be able to see him,” Montalvo said.

Because Ny is on patrol right now, Rebecca doesn’t find it difficult to balance being a newlywed and a student at the same time.

“The only real difference is my last name,” Montalvo said.

Unlike Montalvo, most couples at JMU wait until after they graduate from school to have a ceremony.

“That would’ve been a lot to deal with. It’s just easier not to juggle,” said Casey Bailey, a senior health sciences major.

Bailey met her fiancé, senior marketing major Wesley Hamrick, at a Borders during the midnight release for “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.”

Brad and Angelina ‘enjoying wedding tease’
News from Stuff.co.nz:

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are reportedly “getting a kick” out of keeping their wedding plans secret.

The Hollywood stars have been in a relationship for around seven years and raise six children together.

They had previously insisted they won’t marry until people in same-sex relationships can too, although Brad recently admitted that fully committing to Angelina is becoming more important to him.

It’s now been suggested the pair are already planning their wedding, which will be held at the chateau they own in France.

“Brad and Angie have kept this quiet, and they’re talking about how and when to announce it,” a source told the American edition of OK! magazine. “They really get a kick out of teasing people with this whole thing.”

It’s not known exactly when the superstars will tie the knot, although it is thought the wedding will take place later this year.

Earlier this month, a separate report suggested the nuptials might be held in Springfield, Missouri, where Brad was raised.

“They are keeping their cards close to their chest. The ceremony will by no means be a showbiz event. They want total privacy,” a source told British newspaper The Daily Mail.

“It won’t be a church service but it will incorporate all the cultures within their family.”

Worcester Oxfam wedding dresses slashed
News from BBC News:

The outfits were slashed with a sharp blade

Wedding dresses at a charity shop in Worcester have been slashed by a customer with a craft knife.

Staff at the Oxfam shop in Mealcheapen Street discovered the damage when they were checking stock on Monday.

Wedding gowns, bridesmaids dresses and designer outfits had all been sliced with the sharp blade.

Manager Julie Skipp said: “It’s depriving the needy we collect for and the people who can’t afford a designer outfit.”

She said the shop would have been able to make up to £500 by selling the outfits.

The damaged outfits included three wedding dresses, two bridesmaids’ outfits and three silk designer dresses.

One of the designer garments was to have been the prize in the shop’s Valentine’s Day raffle.

Ms Skipp said staff still have no idea why the outfits were slashed.

“There’s lots of thoughts and rumours going around in the shop – was somebody jilted, was it a grievance about us personally? I don’t think we’ll ever know,” she said.

Spend on this, not that
News from DesMoinesRegister.com:

It’s easy to get caught up in the miniscule details of wedding planning and only in hindsight realize that nobody took the time to appreciate a discarded wedding program, monogrammed paper napkin or the style of chair they were given to sit upon. In an effort to help future brides benefit from others’ rear-view, we’ve amassed advice to help brides navigate the splurge-worthy, the DIY-worthy and the just-plain-unnecessary aspects of planning a wedding.

“The best use of sweat equity for a couple is the place cards, programs and menu cards,” Angie Couch, wedding planner with Elegant Events Weddings, said.

“Office supply stores sell paper that is the right size and have templates you can use to print these on your own. If wording is a problem, then check the Web for sites that may have suggestions.”

Or, do what recent bride Cindy Windsor did and skip programs altogether. Windsor, a middle school science teacher, knew she wanted chalkboards as a recurring theme at her wedding. She used a chalkboard propped on an easel at her outdoor ceremony to create a makeshift “program,” providing information on the petite wedding party. A chalkboard also prompted guests to help themselves to lemonade, and mini chalkboards punctuated her dessert table, which featured homemade cookies in lieu of a pricey wedding cake, as well as a retro candy options like rock candy a…………… continues on DesMoinesRegister.com

Team Fortress 2 celebrates Valentine’s Day by charging lovestruck fools $ 100 …
News from The Verge:

There are many ways to say “I love you” on Valentine’s Day. For instance, you could shut off your phone. Or, if you’re a fan of Valve’s zany cartoony cooperative shooter Team Fortress 2, you could pay $ 100 for a virtual engagement ring and gift it to your significant other online. Dubbed the “Something Special For Someone Special,” but easily renamed to the humorous phrase of your choice, the $ 99.99 band comes complete with a global announcement of your impending matrimony to every single soul playing Team Fortress 2… assuming you aren’t rejected by your prospective partner before you finish stammering out affections in front of your gaming buddies. Should you be successful, both you and your fiance / fiancee will have a pair of gleaming wedding bands to incite the envy and ridicule of all those you frag, and if you’re jilted (how sad!) at least you’ll know revenge is just a baseball bat, rocket, sticky bomb, minigun bullet, fire axe, bonesaw, jarate, wild west shotgun or butterfly knife backstab away.

As Valve-themed marriage proposals, go, though, Portal still takes the cake.

Alara Ring Give Away
News from KBZK Bozeman News:

Alara Jewelry in downtown Bozeman is giving away free engagement and wedding rings to those who share their love story with the store.

Sarah Eshback and Steven Jay met in Bozeman four years ago. They fell in love and moved to Gunnison, Colo., after Jay took a job there. He proposed, but they’d barely begun planning the wedding when they were both laid off. They moved again in search of work. And again. Finally, an offer materialized-back in Bozeman. They were thrilled to return to the town they loved, but the two-year job chase had taken its toll.

“Unfortunately, all the moving from state to state has done a number on us financially,” Eshback wrote in her online entry for Alara’s Tell Us Your Love Story offer. “A wedding band from Alara would not only help make our tight-budgeted wedding come true, but it would also symbolize the ring-like journey we have made as a couple.”

Noelle started Tell Us Your Love Story in November so couples on a restricted budget could still experience the joy that comes from giving and receiving a brand-new ring to celebrate their love. So far, the store has given away 21 rings.

To qualify, Montana residents can fill out a form at tellusyourlovestory.alarajewelry.com, including their contact information and a short essay about their love story and financial situation. They can choose an engagement ring or men’s…………… continues on KBZK Bozeman News
