Florist suggests planning early, keeping open mind for wedding
News from The Times and Democrat:

It’s probably one of the most important decisions you’ll ever make.

Well, not really, but it is a pretty important decision on perhaps the biggest day of your life. And one local florist says you can never plan too early when choosing your wedding flowers.

“Get with a knowledgeable florist, and make a wish list of what you like — the flowers and the colors — so you have ideas of what you want,” said Daryl Cate, owner of The Garden Gate Florist on Carolina Avenue in Orangeburg. “It should reflect your personality, not that of the florist.

“The flowers are an accent, not the focus.”

But they may seem like they’re the focus of the day, particularly when you’re expected to purchase floral accessories for yourself and the groom, all wedding party attendants, both sets of parents and grandparents, any greeters and special guests, the musicians, the director and the list goes on. And don’t forget table centerpieces for the reception, and altar and church arrangements.

While he’s seen wedding flower tallies range from $ 300 to $ 30,000, Cate places the average spent somewhere between $ 2,000 and $ 2,500.

Cate, whose business is called upon to prepare flowers for some 60 nuptials a year, said he hasn’t seen a huge decline in the number of weddings he’s helped prepare for in recent years, but he has seen a decline in…………… continues on The Times and Democrat

Bridal-gown event could evoke Filene’s Basement deja vu
News from Boston.com:

Even though the famous Filene’s Basement wedding dress sale “Running of the Brides” is no more, Boston-area brides can still get a chance to buy discounted wedding dresses this year.

Morgan Memorial Goodwill Industries and Lasell College are hosting “Brides on a Budget,” an event that will display high-end wedding dresses for sale starting at $ 100. The event was held for the first time as a two-day sale in 2009, and will happen again this Sunday, March 4, from noon to 4 p.m., at the Goodwill headquarters at 1010 Harrison Ave. Parking is free.

The dresses were donated from an anonymous bridal boutique through the Lasell Fashion Collection. The college’s fashion students will be at the event to offer free styling services to the brides-to-be.

Proceeds from the event will go toward job training and youth service programs offered through Goodwill, according to Terry Fitzpatrick, vice president of retail enterprise at Goodwill.

‘The Bachelor’ Wedding: Courtney Robertson Plans Fake Wedding For Ben Flajnik
News from Huffington Post:

The 16th season of “The Bachelor” isn’t over yet, but that hasn’t stopped one contestant from planning a full-on wedding.

On Monday’s episode of ABC’s “The Bachelor,” a reality TV show in which 25 women compete for the love of one man, contestant Courtney Robertson confessed her love to bachelor Ben Flajnik in a mock wedding ceremony.

“This is the best way I can think of to show Ben how I feel about him,” the model said of the faux nuptials, which took place in her hometown of Scottsdale, Arizona. “We’re at this place where I’ve always wanted to get married and I’ve got a little wedding planned.”

After Flajnik met her family, Robertson led the Sonoma winemaker to a park area set up with chairs, an altar, wedding decorations, rings — and even a stand-in officiant.

Robertson, who donned a white dress for the occasion, made Flajnik write his vows right on the spot.

“This is pretty funny,” said Flajnik, laughing nervously. “…………… continues on Huffington Post

Congratulations, graduates! Bill Mason’s campaign fund is gift that keeps on …
News from Plain Dealer:

Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Bill Mason

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Here’s a test to determine whether your graduate is more than book smart: Was County Prosecutor Bill Mason invited to the graduation party?

If the answer is yes, enroll the kid in Harvard. Mason doles out cash to graduates, and newlyweds, like it’s not coming out of his own pocket.

Mainly because it’s not.

Continuing his regular practice, Mason billed his campaign $ 1,150 for wedding and graduation gifts last year, according to his campaign finance report.

The executive director of the Ohio Elections Commission calls the gifts questionable.

They’d be allowed under state law only if the recipient were tied to Mason’s office or campaign, said Elections Commission Executive Director Phil Richter. How are these recipients tied? “It’s definitely something that somewhere someone needs to ask some questions,” Richter said.

We asked questions and got this prepared response via email through Mason’s spokeswoman:
