News from Bedminster People:

The summer wedding season will soon be in full swing – if you’re on the guest list, why not take a look at what gifts you can buy in Bedminster and Southville?

Although the wedding list still seems popular with many couples, if you’re daring to go ‘off-list’ you can find unusual gifts of all shapes and sizes in our local shops, and many of them have been made locally too.

You can find gifts and cards at Fig1 on St Luke’s Road. It sells lots of designer home and kitchenware that make lovely gifts.

Cardiac and Health Unlimited on North Street are great places to look for cards and gifts, as are the Sunday markets at the

Unique Wedding Registries

Creative wedding registries are now available for couples looking for something a little less conventional. If you love to camp, want to buy a home, support a particular charity or would love some financial help for a fabulous honeymoon, you can find a wedding registry or create your own.

SEE: 5 Tips For Saving Money On Wedding Gifts

While many of these registries request a donation, etiquette experts suggest that setting up a website for donations with an explanation of how the funds will be used is more polite than a blatant request for cash.

CHARITY TRIES TO REUNITE FOUND WEDDING RING WITH ITS OWNER
News from U-T San Diego:

It has happened again. I wrote a few weeks ago about the firefighter “boot” drive, in which a motorist dropped his wedding band into the boot with the collection loot, presumably inadvertently.

On Thursday, a woman’s diamond-studded wedding ring ended up in one of the 800 red shoes held out to passing motorists around the county for donations to Ronald McDonald House. It wasn’t until the size-14 shoes were collected that the ring was discovered. It had been dropped in at a Mission Valley intersection during morning rush hour.

The ring is now secure in a safe at Ronald McDonald House Charities awaiting a call from its rightful owner to Gail Sullivan at (858) 467-4750 with a detailed description. As of late Friday, she’d gotten a couple of queries, two from women who had lost their wedding rings recently, but this one wasn’t a match for either. “We hope we’ll find the owner,” says Sullivan. For now, the ring has joined a set of dangling diamond earrings found in a shoe during the charity’s kickoff drive two years ago.

Meanwhile, organizers report the “Red Shoe” campaign has brought in about $ 150,000, nearly a 60 percent increase over last year, plus one diamond wedding band.

‘Toilet Paper Wedding Dress’ contest winner announced
News from Fibre2fashion.com:

After weeks of hard work and anticipation, Lake Orchard, Michigan native – Susan Brennan – was named the winner of the Eighth Annual Cheap Chic Weddings Toilet Paper Wedding Dress Contest, brought to you by Cheap-Chic-Weddings and sponsored in part by Charmin.

Final judging took place earlier today at Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Times Square Odditorium, where Brennan received a check for $ 2,012. With over 700 entries this year, participants were required to construct their wedding dresses out of nothing more than Charmin toilet paper, tape, glue and/or needle and thread.

Contest host Cheap-Chic-Weddings, which operates as a money-saving website for brides-to-be, began the annual contest eight years ago based on the popular bridal shower game. As the contest has increased in popularity from year to year, so has the level of competition.

“The quality of talent that presents itself each year always amazes us,” says Susan Bain, one of the founders of Cheap Chic Weddings. “This year’s entries included several dresses that had intricate details like faux embroidery, ruffles, pleats and even lace effects.”

Charmin is a sponsor of the contest for the second time and provided coupons for contest entrants to help cover the cost of purchasing the rolls of Charmin used in creating each dress, w…………… continues on Fibre2fashion.com

Bellevue store gives away free wedding gowns for military brides
News from KLTV:

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Military brides-to-be on the hunt for the perfect wedding dress drove, in some cases, hundreds of miles to a little shop in Bellevue that is giving away free gowns to servicewomen and to the fiances of servicemen.

“We drove about five hours from Atlanta, GA,” said Sam Marie Martinez.

Glitz Bridal on Old Hickory Boulevard was the scene for dozens of military brides on a mission to find their perfect wedding dress Thursday.

More than 50 dresses were available on a first-come, first-served basis to women like Martinez, who served our country in Iraq.

“My fiancee and I met on E-Harmony, and I returned from deployment two years ago,” she said.

Breanne Werkmeister is marrying an active-duty soldier and drove all the way from St. Louis to find a gown.

“He’s stationed at Fort Campbell, an hour away, so we saw him on the way down,” she said.

Glitz Bridal is participating in a nationwide giveaway program, which is sponsored by the group Brides Across America. Typically, a brand new wedding dress costs as much as $ 2,000, but these brides didn’t pay a dime.

“They get to try on three to five dresses, and if they like it, they get to go home with it,” said Ann Miller, with Glitz Bridal.

The free dress giveaway program continues Friday at Glitz Brida…………… continues on KLTV

Obama campaign suggests political donation as perfect wedding gift
News from Fox News:

Getting married? President Barack Obama’s re-election campaign has the perfect wedding gift in mind.

The campaign has started an “Obama event registry” to let engaged fans of the president ask friends and family for donations to his re-election bid instead of presents.

“Got a birthday, anniversary, or wedding coming up?” the site asks. “Let your friends know how important this election is to you — register with Obama 2012, and ask for a donation in lieu of a gift.

“It’s a great way to support the President on your big day,” it continues. “Plus, it’s a gift that we can all appreciate — and goes a lot further than a gravy bowl.”

When signing up, supporters are asked to set a monetary goal. The site also provides some suggested language to use when hitting up friends and relatives for campaign cash.

“For my big day, I’d like to show my support for a cause I believe in — re-electing President Obama,” it reads. “That’s why I’m asking my friends and family to donate to the Obama campaign. Thanks for chipping in!”

Obama has been raising money at a furious clip to keep pace with his rival Mitt Romney and the Republican Party.

Romney and the Republican National Committee raised $ 76.8 million in May, beating the $ 60 million taken in by Obama and the Democratic National Committee.

Final Word
News from Inland Empire Weekly:

You shouldn’t have—that’s what President Obama wants you to say.

The next time someone hands you a gift card or a smartly wrapped present on your big day? Obama would rather you stick out the other hand and ask for a receipt, then mail the cash value back to his re-election campaign.

Highlighted on BarackObama.com is something tastefully branded as the “Obama Event Registry”:

“Got a birthday, anniversary, or wedding coming up? Let your friends know how important this election is to you—register with Obama 2012, and ask for a donation in lieu of a gift.”

“It’s a great way to support the President on your big day. Plus, it’s a gift that we can all appreciate—and goes a lot further than a gravy bowl.”

You tell ’em Barack! Gravy bowl, shmavy bowl. Who needs gifts for ourselves when you can guilt your unsuspecting party guests into donating to a political candidate they may or may not hate.

Woo-hoo! Blow out the candles! No wait. Pull them out of the cake, lick off the frosting and put them back in the box. We can return them to the grocery store and mail Obama another 79 cents.

Pairing your celebration with an Obama Event Registry assumes everyone on the invitation…………… continues on Inland Empire Weekly

Wedding planning: Theme and location ideas for a simple wedding
News from SleekGossip.com:

What is the key to throwing a simple wedding? As long as the guest list is not extensive, then a simple location and theme and the right reception venue can all add up to memorable experience for everyone.
The wedding: some say it’s the crowning moment in a young couple’s life. It’s the moment when their families, their governments, and their God all agree to begin referring to them as a unit, to begin thinking of them not only as man and woman, but as husband and wife. An important step, yes. But does it have to be a complicated one? With today’s busy lifestyle, what couple has the time or money to devote to planning out intricate, million-dollar wedding schemes?

That doesn’t mean, though, that a couple should ditch the bouquet and the tuxedo. There are lots of options for couples who desire simpler, more intimate affairs as opposed to large, gaudy ones. The keys to any wedding, but especially a simple one, are these: location, entertainment, and theme.

Wedding planning: Free funny best man speech ideas and samples
News from SleekGossip.com:

One of the most feared things in any man’s life is the dreaded question, “Will you be my best man?” Not because of the wedding, the bachelor party, or losing your best single pal – rather because of the commitment you are making, to toast the happy couple. Too often the best man feels the need to be somber at this task and the emotion rings false since the relationship he has forged with the couple is not a somber one. So for all those clowns and goofballs soon to be raising a glass to their friends, here are seven easy steps to follow when giving a funny best man’s speech.

1. Keep it Short!!!!! This can’t be emphasized enough. You may have a great tale of the funniest 48 hours you spent with the groom, but unless you can shrink it to 2-3 minutes don’t share it.

2. Keep it in Good Taste. Funny shouldn’t cause one of those uncomfortable Wonder Year’s silences when everyone tries to look the other way and slowly duck under the table. Instead, focus on a quirk or some small amusing element.

Jennifer Hudson created wedding gown

Jennifer Hudson created wedding gown
News from Belfast Telegraph:

Thursday Jun 28 2012

Jennifer Hudson designed her own wedding dress as she wanted it to have “its own little show”.

The songstress has been engaged to pro wrestler David Otunga for nearly four years and the pair are now ready to walk down the aisle.

Jennifer couldn’t wait to put her ideas forward for the big day’s gown, as she has a flair for creating spectacular pieces.

“I designed my dress, but it wasn’t the first time because I also designed my prom dress. I’ve always had a love for making things my own. With my wedding dress, I was like, ‘It has to be me,’” she told WWD.

“My mother used to say, ‘If you want something done right, do it yourself.’ The dress has three compartments: a coat, a dress and a train. It has its own little show.”

Jennifer recently unveiled her own clothing collection for shopping channel QVC – 14 items including dresses, leggings, tops and winter coats.

The stunning star has explained which of her designer friends have inspired her own work.

“Definitely Michael Kors. I love that he caters to every woman, the real woman, the everyday woman – every curve, every size, every age. I feel like I get that from him. I love Givenchy as well, and Rick Owens. I have a Rick Owens coat that feels like a bathrobe, but it’s this fierce coat. Sometimes I walk around my house in it…………… continues on Belfast Telegraph

NetWorth: Financial tips for newlyweds, soon-to-weds
KATHLEEN PENDER
San Francisco Chronicle
06-27-12

As part of his full-service approach to wedding planning, Sanford Marshall says he refers clients to florists, photographers and financial planners.

Planning a wedding “is the first telltale sign of how the couple views money and the first scenario for there to be conflict,” says Marshall, owner of the Wedding Coach in San Francisco.

“If they have a limited budget and a choice between upgrading their wine, their invitations or getting better centerpieces, that really helps them to prioritize. It forces them to have collaboration and a compromise,” he says. It gives them “a taste of what’s to come.”

After seeing friends, relations and even some clients divorce, in large part over money, Marshall has been advising engaged couples to talk about things like budgeting and joint-versus-separate checking accounts before the big day.

Here are some tips to help newlyweds and soon-to-weds plan their financial futures:

– Check each other’s credit reports: If your betrothed can’t manage debt, better find out before the wedding. Withholding this information from each other is like “financial infidelity,” says John Ulzheimer, president of consumer education at SmartCreditcom.
