DIY bride! Woman makes her own wedding dress for $ 30
News from KTRK-TV:

DIY has become a big trend for couples planning their weddings, but a Seattle woman took it to another level when she crocheted her wedding gown, completing the dress for $ 30.

Chi Krneta worked on the floor length, v-neck gown during her 50-minute bus commute each day. It took about five months to complete the gown.

“I crochet a lot on the bus during my commute and have made other things like hats, scarves, and shorter dresses,” Krneta told ABC News. “I knew I wanted to design and make my own wedding dress (I also sew) and figured that crocheting it would be the most efficient way to accomplish.”

Crocheting the dress was also a touching way to honor her grandmother, who taught her how to crochet as a child but passed away several years ago.

In a post on Reddit, Krneta said that the dresses machine washable and she plans to wear it again with different colored linings.

Waco’s popular ‘Elegant Bride’ event helps with wedding planning
News from Waco Tribune-Herald:

“An Event for the Elegant Bride” moves into its 11th year of bringing together a wide array of businesses that specialize in wedding products and services.

The show will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Oct. 26 in Chisholm Hall at the Waco Convention Center, 100 Washington Ave. A ticket costs $ 10 and can be purchased at the door.

Planning a wedding can be expensive and time-consuming. Couples have to visit reception sites, caterers, florists, formalwear stores and more as they plan out their wedding. “An Event for the Elegant Bride” places many of these vendors in one spot.

It’s hard to beat that kind of one-stop shopping, said Larry Pendley, who with wife Paulette co-owns Pendley Party Productions & Rentals, which puts on the event.

“An Event for the Elegant Bride” has been growing every year, Pendley said.

“We have lots of vendors,” Pendley said. “Florists, photographers, deejays … everyone associated with the wedding industry.”

Great door prizes will be given throughout the show, he said, urging visitors to come early and stay late.

Placing so many professionals in one spot enables attendees to save hundreds of dollars in driving time and the cost of gasoline, he said. Participating vendors at “An Event for the Elegant Bride” will present plenty of ideas and…………… continues on Waco Tribune-Herald

What happens to old wedding dresses? Bridal Crawl could be one of the answers.
News from The Times-Picayune –

French Quarter denizens — tourists and residents — may have been scratching their heads on Saturday (Sept. 20) afternoon (and probably into the night) when they saw a mass of about 200 wedding dress-clad women and men on the streets. Not a mass wedding, it was Bridal Crawl, an event created by the Creativity Collective, a group of adults and teens united in supporting arts and arts education programs. However, for this second annual Bridal Crawl, the group raised funds for Covenant House, which helps children in need by providing safe housing, food and counseling and more. (The inaugural event benefited Café Reconcile.)

The event started at Galvez Restaurant, where “brides” cocktailed and conversed, with prizes awarded for the Craziest dress, Stephanie Ward; Most Creative dress, Suzanne Graham; and Classiest dress, Tim Matey.

Before heading to the streets, the brides posed for a group shot. Afterwards, they headed towards Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. restaurant, where a bridal flash mo…………… continues on The Times-Picayune –

‘Frozen’ Wedding Dress: See Disney’s Version Of Elsa’s Iconic Blue Gown …
News from International Business Times:

“Frozen” fans can now have a “happily ever after” of their own — or at least look the part. Disney has teamed up with Alfred Angelo Bridal to create a wedding dress inspired by Princess Elsa, the Snow Queen of Arendelle.

Disney’s “Ever After Blog” revealed on Thursday that the Elsa-inspired bridal gown is part of Alfred Angelo’s 2015 Disney Fairy Tale Weddings collection. A sketch of the dress was released by the Disney Weddings Instagram account, displaying a sweetheart strapless fitted gown with beaded work trailing to the bottom. According to the blog, the sheath gown is an “ice blue” with “dramatic” beading to “glisten like sunlight on fresh fallen snow.” The dress, which is an interpretation of Elsa’s signature look, also features a “dramatic Watteau train.”

Elsa isn’t the only Disney princess to get the royal wedding treatment from Alfred Angelo. The bridal company actually has…………… continues on International Business Times

7 ways not to annoy your wedding planner
News from New York Post:

Want to make the most of your wedding planner’s time? While a signed contract is a great first step, turning into a total bridezilla, or worse, a stage-five clinger, midway through the process is definitely not the wisest way to go. Remember: Wedding planners are people too, and you’ve got to give respect to get it.

We asked a bunch of seasoned wedding planners to tell it like it really is when it comes to all the little (and not so little) things that annoy them.

Come in with a vision.

“I know this is a hard one because some people really don’t know what they want, but at least have a vague idea what direction you would like to move in, maybe a color palette or a theme you like, so we can pull it all together and not have to create a vision for you.” — Shafonne Myers, wedding planner and founder of

‘Outlander’ Costume Designer on Wedding Dresses, Kilts and Corsets
News from Variety:

Starz’s time-traveling romance drama “Outlander” is a series caught between two historical periods: one “present day” when England limps back to recovery after World War II and another as it fights to wrestle Scotland under its control during the 1700s. Parallels to current events aside, the show also creates a costuming challenge for connecting (and differentiating) the two worlds through the eyes of heroine Claire Randall (Caitriona Balfe).

This all comes full-circle in Saturday’s episode, with Claire’s reluctant marriage to the brave and headstrong Scottish warrior Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan). The episode has a lot riding on it, as fans of the books on which the series is based have heavily anticipated this moment — and, naturally, a lot of their attention will be directed toward the wedding attire. To get the lowdown on dressing the characters for this and other moments of the series, Variety talked with series costume designer

Quality wedding dresses; great price; good cause
News from WJXT Jacksonville:

It’s an event where brides to be will come together in one spot looking for the perfect dress while showing support for cancer.

The Original Nationwide Tour of Gowns raises nearly $ 2 million for cancer support programs annually.

Brides Against Breast Cancer is coming back to Jacksonville Sunday and organizers say you can expect great dresses at a great price for a good cause.

Organizers say Brides Against Breast Cancer is an organization serving a very “pink” purpose. She says gown sales fund programs and services that are free to cancer patients and their families.

Through its Original Nationwide Tour of Gowns bridal shows, Brides Against Breast Cancer holds more than 120 shows a year in cities nationwide, with an average offering of 1,000 or more new or gently worn bridal dresses.

Organizers say wedding gown sales are an important fundraising program for Brides Against Breast Cancer.

“Our organization makes it possible for future brides around the country to purchase wedding gowns at dramatic savings, and give back” said Amy Paulishak, VP of business development. “Most gown prices range from $ 99 to $ 799, including beautiful new name brand and designer gowns valued up to $ 4,000.”

Jerrod Niemann, Fiancee Ask for Donations in Lieu of Wedding Gifts
News from Taste of Country:

Jerrod Niemann and fiancee Morgan Petek will tie the knot in October, but they don’t want wedding gifts.

The country singer and his soon-to-be wife will travel to San Juan, Puerto Rico to say “I do” next month, and instead of filling out their wedding registry at local chain stores, they’re trying to help children in the name of music by asking for donations to Niemann’s nonprofit, Free the Music USA.

“In lieu of a traditional wedding registry, we are asking for donations to be made to benefit Free the Music USA,” the couple tells People.

Niemann’s nonprofit organization strives to give instruments to children who may not be able to afford them otherwise. On its official page, the group states that all children deserve “the opportunity to explore music within themselves,” which is why the singer created FTMUSA.

Charity is something the couple really supports —…………… continues on Taste of Country
