Woman who dumped boyfriend can keep $ 10K ‘engagement’ ring: judge
News from New York Post:

If you like it, fellas, you should put a ring on it — but remember to actually pop the question first.

A judge has ruled a Long Island woman who broke up with her boyfriend can keep a $ 10,200 “engagement” ring because her paramour didn’t make a marriage proposal when he handed over the pricey gift.

Unlucky loverboy Joseph Robert Torres, of Yonkers, went to court to snatch back the ring from former gal pal Debbie Lopez, citing a law that lets men retrieve their engagement rings if their wedding plans go bust.

He claimed he proposed to the Valley Stream brunette in an emotional April 2010 moment at Rockefeller Center, when he had the couple’s 6-year-old son hand her the ring.

Lopez, 48, wore it on her left ring finger and even told friends “Maybe, I don’t know yet,” when asked if she was engaged, according to court records.

But after the couple split in 2012, Lopez refused to give up her pricey hardware without a fight. She claimed she didn’t have to surrender the ring because Torres, 52, didn’t actually propose marriage when he gave it to her.

The ring gi…………… continues on New York Post

How much should I spend on a wedding gift?
News from MarketWatch:

Personal finance reporter

Dear Moneyologist,

It seems to be a common belief that the acceptable gift at a wedding corresponds to the cost of the meal. Just recently I attended a very lavish celebration and was surprised when one guest said we should also leave a tip for the servers. Any comment on either of these beliefs? I gave a gift I could afford. The wedding was over-the-top lavish, and I didn’t think I could pay what was rumored to be the per person cost. I didn’t feel too bad when I learned the bride’s father is very well-heeled and paid for the who…………… continues on MarketWatch

Ebola Nurse Amber Joy Vinson Flew to Plan Wedding
News from NBCNews.com:

Ebola-infected nurse Amber Joy Vinson flew from Dallas to Ohio last weekend to plan a wedding and visit family, a health official said Wednesday.

The young health-care worker hails from the Akron area and has two degrees from Kent State University, where three of her relatives, including her mother, work.

A family member said Vinson has wanted to be in the medical field since she was a little girl.

“She wanted to help people. Amber has always been kind and compassionate,” said Diane Sloane Rhynes, whose late brother was married to Vinson’s mother for several years.

She said the last time she saw Vinson was in 2011 when she was working in the intensive care unit at Summa Akron City Hospital and planning to move out of state for another job. A spokesman for Akron City said she was a nurse there from 2007 to 2012.

“She has always been very sweet and kind,” said Rhynes. “I considered her my niece and my heart is heavy with this news.”

Officials have said Vinson had extensive contact with Thomas Eric Duncan, the Liberian man who died of Ebola at Texas Health Presbyterian hospital in Dallas. Medical records provided to The Associated Press by Duncan’s family show Vinson inserted catheters, drew blood, and dealt with D…………… continues on NBCNews.com

Man Posed as Guest and Stole Wedding Gifts: Cops
News from NBC Connecticut:

Westport police are asking for help to find the man who posed as a guest at a wedding and stole a newlywed couple’s wedding gifts. News 4′s Ida Siegal reports.

Tuesday, Oct 14, 2014 • Updated at 3:57 PM EDT

Police are asking for help to find the man who posed as a guest at a Connecticut wedding and stole a newlywed couple’s wedding gifts.

The couple was holding a reception at the Longshore Inn in Westport when a man stole a bird cage filled with several wedding cards for the couple, police said.

Officers responded around 7 p.m. to investigate and determined that the man was posing either as a guest at the reception or the hotel and was seen loitering in the lobby of the inn and talking on the phone before grabbing the birdcage and walking out, police said.

Police set up a perimeter, brought in a K9 unit and searched the grounds, but only found the empty bird cage.

Now police are trying to identify…………… continues on NBC Connecticut

Thief Steals Truck, Wedding Dress, Cards and Gifts
News from KMTV:

OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) – “Justin and Mandy, with much love and joy we join you to celebrate your marriage everyday as a blessing.”

All that’s left from her wedding reception are torn up pieces of paper.

“You just think of them sitting there just ripping them open because it means nothing to them.”

Justin and Amanda Jarzynka are newlyweds who celebrated their love with family and friends over the weekend, but they’re sickened over what happened afterward.

“It’s a violation. It’s your privacy. It’s people that want to wish you well for your life and how tell you how special your marriage is and how they want all these great things for you and this is how it starts,” said Amanda.

After their perfect night, the group went to their hotel, the Comfort Inn at 72nd and Grover streets. Packed up in Amanda’s F-250 Super Duty truck were her wedding gifts, gown and her husband’s tuxedo.

“So it had all of our cards from everyone. You know well wishes, happy marriage and all this and that and everyone’s beautiful things that they had to say and we’ll never know what they had to say,” she said.

When the couple woke up, the truck was gone.

“They pull the whole thing out, and jam a screw driver in there and it starts right up,” Amanda explained.

Stolen right out of the lot. Police told Amanda her type of vehicle is a tar…………… continues on KMTV

It’s all about the dress.

That’s Andi Dorfman’s approach to wedding planning, she and fiancé Josh Murray told PEOPLE Monday at The Knot Gala in New York.

“The dress is kind of our first step,” said the former Bachelorette, 27. “As a woman, I am just going to go ahead and say everything revolves around the dress. So, we will pick the theme, we will pick the venue, and we will pick the place based on the dress, I think.”

Keeping the wedding party going and going
News from Baltimore Sun:

When Michael and Melissa Peters began planning their wedding, they knew that when the reception was over, they wouldn’t be ready for the night to end. So after the last dance, instead of sending their guests off to the hotel, the Peters kept the party going with a visit from their favorite Baltimore food truck.

The couple, who live in Canton, held their reception at the American Visionary Art Museum. As that celebration was winding down, the Kooper’s Chowhound food truck pulled up to the museum’s courtyard, where guests continued the party as they ate burgers served right off the grill.

“We had been to enough weddings to remember how hungry you are at the end,” says Melissa Peters with a laugh. “The dancing takes a toll. And there’s nothing like a good burger.”

Hiring the Chowhound food truck also gave the couple’s out-of-town guests the opportunity to build a memory around something unique to Baltimore, says Peters.

“We had an otherwise very traditional wedding and were trying to inject quirky undertones,” she says. “It’s definitely one of the top things people remember about our wedding.”
