$ aving Bucks finds discount option for wedding, prom dresses
News from Bucks County Courier Times:

Cindy Christman, the owner of Infinitely Yours Flowers in Bensalem, knows that every young girl dreams about the dress she’s going to wear on her wedding day.

But through her work with brides at the flower shop, she learned many women couldn’t afford that special dress.

So she expanded her business, opening Angelina’s Bridal Boutique next door. It’s an upscale consignment store offering designer dresses at discounted prices.

The shop, which opened in February, offers hundreds of gowns at lower-than-retail prices. Many still have price tags on them.

The bridal boutique boasts a collection of dresses designed by the likes of Maggie Sottero, Alfred Angelo, Justin Alexander, James Clifford, La Sposa and Anjolique. Prices for these finds range from $ 200 to $ 2,800, Christman said.

“Our mission is to provide upscale formal wear at affordable prices, providing a means for past brides to receive a return on their investment and paying it forward for future brides to love that once-worn treasure on her special day,” she said.

Brides who bring in their once-worn dress must get it dry-cleaned first, and it’s only added to the store’s collection if it’s in “perfect condition,” Christman said.

“Then, she gets 50 percent of the sale and we receive 50 percent.”

20 Gorgeous Wedding Gowns For Curvy Girls
News from POPSUGAR:

You want your wedding dress to be unique. You want it to make a statement that speaks to your personal style — whether it’s got unique details like a bodice with floral appliqué or a subtly sexy open back — but it shouldn’t feel too over-the-top. Your bridal gown should hug your curves in all the right places, flattering your best assets.

Though that seems like a tall order in a land of strappy, slinky designs that don’t feel right, we’re here to help. Forget the expected silhouettes that feel more “blah” than beautiful, because we rounded up the best plus-size dresses, all available in size 16 and up.

Some will make you feel like a princess, cinching at the waist and exploding into layers of chiffon, while others are simple, lacy numbers that will let you parade boldly down the aisle. Whichever you choose, we bet you’ll find a gown here that was made for saying “I do.”

Waterville woman to loan wedding gowns to exhibit
News from Topeka Capital Journal:

Ann Walter, owner of Anntie M’s Attic in Waterville, is lending some of the wedding gowns and accessories in her vintage clothing collection to the Blue Rapids Museum for a wedding exhibit that will run April 25 through Aug. 31. Walter’s gowns date from the late 1890s to the 1990s.

WATERVILLE — Ann Walter, owner of Anntie M’s Attic in Waterville, stretches out a delicate bridal veil from the 1920s. The lacy-net head adornment is square-shaped and has a headband decorated with baubles made from cotton balls covered with silver foil.

The veil is among the wedding gowns, handkerchiefs, shoes and other bridal accessories Walter will transport to the Blue Rapids Museum for an exhibit showcasing items associated with weddings.

“I just marvel at the quality of materials (of these dresses and veils) after years of being packed away,” she said.

Pat Osborne, Blue Rapids Historical Society member, said the exhibit will run from April 25 through Aug. 31 at the museum, which is on the town’s round town square. Don’t give in to coworker after wedding gift tantrum
News from Detroit Free Press:

By Carolyn Hax 12:10 a.m. EDT March 28, 2015

Dear Carolyn: A coworker of mine is getting married and invited me to her wedding. I sent what I thought was a nice gift off her registry that cost about $ 60. We are in the same role at our office and make approximately the same amount of money (and are fairly well-compensated). However, my husband is out of work, and we have a hefty mortgage payment, a young child, and another on the way, so my financial situation is not as rosy as my salary might make it appear.

My coworker has been loudly complaining that people in our office are not getting her “nice” gifts and that she feels many people are being very stingy. She went so far as to say that she expects them to give her another gift at the actual wedding.

This felt like a jab at me, and I’m not sure how to handle it. Just ignore? Explain my situation? Give something els…………… continues on Detroit Free Press

The Money Corner: Wedding gifts 101
News from Kansas City Star:

Warmer days, the scent of flowers in the air, an oddly specific craving for buttercream frosting – what can this mean? That wedding season has arrived, of course. With all the lovely ceremonies and dance-filled receptions, there’s also something else to consider – your budget.

Buying gifts for showers and weddings can add up quickly and if you, like so many of us, have multiple weddings in a year, these costs can start to feel unreasonable. This week, I want to share my wedding gift-giving etiquette tips. Stick me with and I will set you straight on what is and is not expected.

Set Your Expectations

According to the major wedding website The Knot, http://www.knot.com, you’re best-served by framing your wedding gift budget by ratios. It’s typical to spend 20 percent on the engagement gift, 20 percent on the bridal shower and 60 percent on the wedding gift. The website also found the following averages for what people are typically spending overall:

Coworker or distant family friend/relative: $ 50-$ 75

Relative or friend: $ 75-$ 100

Close relative or close friend: $ 100-$ 150

Of course, this isn’t a hard and fast rule. Some soon-to-be-weds are thrown an engagement party, a couple’s shower, a bridal shower and have their respective bachelor and bachelorette parties. If you…………… continues on Kansas City Star

10 Wedding Gifts You’re Not Registering For, But Should
News from MainStreet:

Kitchen miscellany

With nine out of 10 couples registering for kitchen appliances, nobody’s forgetting about toasters, blenders and slow cookers.

Then again, nearly half of couples consider those items of utmost importance. When it comes to getting their hands on a good set of knives, though, 70% of couples register for them but only 13% give them any sense of priority. Couples should keep this in mind on their one-year anniversary, when their bargain-rack utility knife fails to puncture a tomato.

“I love the idea of upgrading to higher-quality, chef-style cutlery, since knives dull over time and dishwasher steam can weaken handles on knives,” Naylor says. “You might even want the gleaming silver knife block as opposed to the wooden one to coordinate with those great countertop kitchen appliances.”

Even something much smaller than an expensive set of knives can make a huge difference in a kitchen depending on who’s doing the cooking. Naylor still cherishes her julienne peeler that juliennes carrots, zucchini, eggplant and other vegetables for healthy cooking without having to pull out a larger contraption. If peeling the fine, flaky skin off a clove of garlic amounts to slow torture for a home cook, there’s a narrow, cannoli-shaped plastic tube that does the job with far less mess and aggravati…………… continues on MainStreet

Woman Claims Huntington Dry Cleaners Lost Daughter’s Wedding Dress
News from CBS Local:

HUNTINGTON, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) – A Long Island mother claims her dry cleaners lost her daughter’s wedding gown.

In February, Susan Davis said she went to Evergreen Cleaners in Huntington to pick up her daughter’s Jesus Peiro beaded wedding gown.

Instead of getting back her daughter’s dress, the cleaners gave her someone else’s gown, Davis said.

Woman Claims Huntington Dry Cleaners Lost Daughter’s Wedding Dress

Sophia Hall reports

“The woman who actually does the wedding dresses said, ‘I remember doing your daughter’s,’ but they just didn’t seem to have records that could help us locate my daughter’s dress,” Davis told WCBS 880’s Sophia Hall. “I guess as soon as people pick things up he wipes things out of his computer.”

Davis said someone likely picked up what they thought was their wedding dress but never looked inside the box and just put it away in storage.

She hopes that person opens up the box, sees that it’s the wrong gown and comes forward.

Historical Society offers wedding gown showcase
News from Post-Chronicle:

NORTH HAVEN >> Weddings and all things wedding-related have always had a certain universal appeal.

Thus, members of the North Haven Historical Society are inviting residents and others to dust off those old wedding pictures and dig that gown out of storage as they present, “Brides through the Ages,” a wedding gown showcase Sunday, May 31, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Masonic Lodge, 30 Church St.

“We have found that everybody has a fascination with wedding gowns,” said Ann Clark, a member of the Historical Society who is helping to organize the event. “It’s amazing how many of them have been saved.”

Clark, who has preserved her own wedding gown, notes that all three of her daughters have also saved theirs.

“It’s amazing how the styles change,” Clark said. “It’s fascinating.”

Event organizers plan to set up a wedding gown display comprised of borrowed gowns belonging to residents and others who wish to loan theirs for all to see and enjoy. Photographs are also welcome. All photos will be scanned to a cd then returned to their owners. A video collage will scroll throughout the event.

As an added attraction, several members of the Garden Club have volunteered to research typical floral arrangements to coincide with the vintage dresses.
